Week 4 Project Action Plan: Moliere
Project Action Plan
- My project will be on the character, Mariane, from Moliere. I will start off by describing her character, which she is the daughter of Orgon, and was about to have an arranged marriage that she did not agree to.
- Her character is about love and the power her father has over her love. She's in love with someone else and does not want to be with the man her father wants her to marry
- I will analyze her actions and fate and connect them with the author of the story so it is clearly understood what the author was trying to convey through this character. On page 161, one of the characters were trying to talk out Mariane from marrying Tartuffe but she does not refuse at first because she respected the power her father has over her.
- Then, I will find two characters and what their views are on Mariane and use quotes to determine those facts. I think I will use Orgon, her father, because on pages 156-157, Orgon's views on Mariane is she must obey him and complete any task he asks her to do since she is his daughter.
- I think the second character I will use will be either Valere or Dorine, or even both. Valere is in love with Mariane and Dorine looks out for Mariane. Both characters have some pretty good quotes that will help me depict their views on Mariane.
- Next I will have quotes ready that explain how Mariane truly views herself. In the story, it seemed like she viewed herself as a loyal daughter but then later changes into maybe being too much of a loyal daughter because her father is forcing her to do something she doesn't want to do. But of course at the end of the story, Orgon changes his mind and ends up wanting his daughter to marry her true love, Valere.
Hi Alissa!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed how your thoughts for your essay was mapped out. However, I'm not sure what prompt you are answering.
I Noticed that in the beginning of the tale, the grandmother was very rude to Mariane and basically called her a fool. How do you think this treatment by her elders influenced her choices throughout the story?
I noticed that you did not talk about her brother and his fate being tied to hers with their marriages. Do you think that this pressure of not only her happiness hanging in the balance, but her brothers as well had something to do with her protest and begging for Dorine's assistance? What motivations besides love of her father could have made her listen to him? She could have run away with Valere but would rather suffer and obey her father. But she would also rather die than wed Tartuffe. Why do you think this is?
ReplyDeleteHi Alissa,
I enjoyed reading how you plan to do your project. I also, decided to write about a character/characters in the story Tartuffe. Mariane seems to have much respect for her grandmother despite in the beginning as Savannah says she calls her a fool. Also, her father has her in an arranged marriage with Valere, which later he switches and what her do marry Tartuffe instead. Why do you think Mariane doesn't have a voice for herself? Why didn't she just run away with Valere? How/why do you think the author portrays Mariane character the way he does? Dorine is seen to be outspoken when it comes to Marine. Protecting and caring for her love life and willing to disobey Mariane father just to ensure Marine is happy. Is it just me or does Marine and Dorine have a different kind of relationship other than Dorine being Marine maid? I can't wait to read your project. Good luck!
Greetings Alissa
ReplyDeleteI thought your project action plan was very well put together and you know exactly what you are going to write about. I do not know what question you are answering for the project You seem to be covering a lot of info in the project from just one story. I like how you broke your project into parts based on the characters you are covering in the story. I am also doing this questions and it interesting to see how you are doing your project compared to mine. Have you been able to find any quotes from the reading that relate to what you will be discussing? I'm interested to see your perspective on putting quotes with your thoughts/ opinions. I am excited to see the final results of your project.
